The Historic Preservation Division gives New Mexico a strong voice in federal government actions that affect the state's historic heritage. Through the Historic Preservation Division, decision-making about preservation issues is brought down to the state, county and local government levels.
Preservation efforts include commemorations and memorials, restoring and maintaining historical sites, locating and marking patriot headstones, and preserving genealogical records, artifacts and historical documents.
History Matters was founded by popular author Steve Berry and his wife, Elizabeth, to assist communities in raising money for their historic preservation projects. Since they began in 2009, they have raised over $1,000,000. All of the money raised goes to the community and/or organization that is sponsoring the workshops.
